Dr Jack Taunton is a Professor, Sports Medicine Special Interest Focus Program, Department of Family Practice, UBC Faculty of Medicine. Co-founder of the Allan McGavin Sports Medicine Centre, he maintains an active sports medicine practice and conducts clinical and exercise medicine research with a focus on overuse injuries and injury prevention. Dr Taunton was Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for Vancouver’s 2010 Winter Games and served as CMO for the Canadian teams at the Sydney Olympics, two Pan American Games and two World Student Games. He works with distance runners, cyclists, triathletes and others as both doctor and coach. Dr. Taunton was Team Physician and Association Coordinating Physician for the women’s Field Hockey Canada team for over 25 years, and also served as the Team Physician for the Vancouver Grizzlies. He completed more than 60 marathons as a competitive runner and continues to run and race, cycle and cross-country ski.
