Ilona Hale

Ilona Hale, MD, FCFPC has been a rural family physician in Kimberley, BC since graduating from the UBC Rural Family Practice Residency in 1995 and a clinician researcher since 2015.

She is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Practice. She completed the two-year UBC Clinician Scholar Program in 2018 followed by the Transdisciplinary Understanding and Training on Research – Primary Health Care (TUTOR-PHC) felowship through the University of Western Ontario. She is currently the Director of the UBC Clinician Scholars Program, a third year Enhanced Skills Family Practice residency program, as well as the Director of the Rural Scholar Program.

Hale is a Research Associate with the Centre for Rural Health Research and the UBCO Centre for Chronic Disease Prevention and Management.  She is passionate about health promotion and disease prevention. Her primary research interests are early prevention of obesity and other chronic diseases during infancy and planetary health with a focus on mitigation of further climate change through greening of the healthcare system, particularly in rural areas.
